Transitioning to a Co-educational Environment Questions and Answers Why is McClancy transitioning to a co-ed environment at this time? . Based on a thorough 2001 co-educational study consultation study conducted in tandem with a strategic plan, we feel that the best way to advance the mission of the school in offering a comprehensive, quality educational program is to accommodate the need for an additional co-educational institution in this area. How does co-education affect the mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart? . The mission of Brothers of the Sacred Heart, which has a rich tradition dating back to 1821 in Lyon, France, will remain as strong as ever at Msgr. McClancy MHS. In fact, there are many Brothers of the Sacred Heart schools throughout the world that are co- educational in North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. The Brothers’ mission is based on seven educational characteristics and they apply to the formation and education of all young people. These characteristics are as follows: - A Spirituality of the Heart of Christ - An Integration of Faith & Life - A Spirit of Community - Formation of the Whole Person - Availability - An Ordered and Structured Environment - A Special Concern for the Poor & Neglected Will transfer female students be accepted in the 2012/2013 school year on all levels? . No. Transfer female students will only be accepted for a particular grade level appropriate to the schedule of the transition. For example, transfer female students for the 9th grade would be accepted for the 2012/2013 school year, transfer female 9th and 10th grade students will be accepted in the 2013/2014 school year, etc. How will McClancy prepare to welcome young women? . Approximately 20% of the current faculty is female. 82% of the faculty has taught in a co-educational environment. The school has always accepted females for participation in summer sessions as well as TACHS preparation programs. Msgr. McClancy MHS maintains a strong College Credit Program, Advanced Placement (AP) Program along with its regular college preparatory program and scholarship opportunities.
